Our Mission

At Wonky, we believe

All of our products are hand-made by women for a purpose.

We are a Public Benefit Corporation committed to creating employment for women in developing nations, and to you, the women who help write that story.

Our vision is that one day you can look at every item in your closet and around your home, and know that each piece wrote a story of opportunity and empowerment.

We believe that every woman who wants to work should have access to the necessary training and employment, that it should be safe, and they should not have to be separated from their families to be employed. We are committed to supporting female empowerment programs where they exist and creating them where they do not.

Join us in empowering women one product at a time, stand with our team and with the women we serve. Your purchase brings opportunity to communities around the world.

About our Founder

Yuri Lee Keown is an international fashion industry veteran with over 15 years of experience designing for many of the world’s leading fashion brands including DKNY, Victoria’s Secret, Anthropologie, and Amour Vert. Having established her career in New York City, fashion development and manufacturing has taken Yuri all over the world building initiatives and partnerships in Mexico, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Sri Lanka, China, India, Peru, and Portugal.

In 2017, despite having achieved most of the milestones she’d set for her career, Yuri realized how deeply unhappy she was working solely for her own benefit and decided to make a change. She quit her job, packed up her things, and set out on a six month journey traveling through India and parts of Africa in pursuit of a new way of working that would reimagine fashion industry ethics to benefit the underprivileged.

It was during this time Yuri came up with the business model for Wonky. She witnessed women working with ample skill but little opportunity in remote areas, and mothers separated from their children, traveling far from their villages and homes to earn a living at the nearest factory.

Wonky’s mission is to offer beautiful, handmade goods while generating new opportunities for artisans around the world, empowering women one product at a time.

Yuri Lee Keown has a BFA from Carnegie Mellon University, and an AAS from Parsons the New School of Design.
